So you say you’re waiting on God? Really?

in Is God the problem? Or is it me?

I have never been a wait and see kind of guy.

The man by the pool of Bethesda in the Bible waited for 38 years to be healed. I can’t relate to him.

There was a widow woman who was visited by the prophet. She was penniless, hungry and waiting to die. Good thing the prophet showed up! I don’t know what I would have done had I been in her shoes. Women were treated like 3rd class (not even 2nd class) citizens in those days, so she has even a more valid reason to feel hopeless. Still, my western mind can’t wrap itself around her situation.

I do get the woman with the issue of blood. She refused to accept her failing diagnosis and pressed her way to see Jesus in spite of the crowds. Man, I like her feisty spirit!

I love the woman who asked Jesus to heal her daughter. The disciples scoffed at her because she was a gentile. They called her a dog. But she saw that name calling as fighting words. She ignored those “good old boys” and told Jesus that even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.

Maybe she should have gone home and well… waited. Perhaps she should have taken “no” for an answer and gone away.. No way! Those fellas didn’t know who they were messing with!

Did you lose your job? Your marriage? Your health? Your sanity!?! Get up and fight! I’m not singing your sad songs with you. Hey, I’ve got my own problems!

Don’t waste your time fighting for things that you cannot control. Don’t fight to be loved and appreciated. Don’t even fight to keep material things.

You SHOULD fight boredom, depression, procrastination, indecision and laziness. Fight temptation. Fight getting easily angered. Fight to keep your spirit healthy and inspired. Fight the assault on your mind of negative people, places or things that keep you confused as well as spiritually and emotionally weary. Fight the good fight of faith!

Get up and fight! Stop complaining. Stop explaining. There are solutions to every problem. You will not solve them with the same mindset that you had when the problem developed.

Find a pastor, a mentor, a coach, a counselor, Obi- Wan- Kenobi, Dora the Explorer … somebody who has more wisdom than you. (Personally, I prefer Sponge Bob…)

Don’t tell me no one is there for you. When the student is ready, the teacher shows up. And when they do, shut up and listen. Don’t run from person to person and place to place looking for someone to make you feel better. We all need family. friends or a church family in our lives who make us feel stronger. Stronger first… then better.

And by the way, don’t go to a church because your uncle is the Pastor. Don’t go just because the preacher is on TV. Don’t go because that’s the church where you grew up in.

Go because the power, love and guiding light of God is there. Go because Jesus is glorified. Go because God’s Word is taught and preached with a real anointing. Not because of cute sayings, cliches’ and charisma!

Hey… I’m sorry about yelling, but I’m preaching to me too.

Are you one of those who procrastinates or are fearful or can’t make a decision? Do you call that waiting on God?

There is a waiting on God but that does not mean we should stop developing quality relationships, working through situations, seeking answers and making wise decisions.

You know that I have found that God will help us even if we are procrastinators. But you will definitely drag out the pain.

This is normally the point where someone will say, “Well honey just trust God. Or let go and let God.”

Yes, trust God. Yes, let go and let God. But that’s only after you have done all you are supposed to do. Listen, faith is not found hiding in a cave. Faith takes hold when you run toward the giant like David did. God takes your best efforts and puts His supernatural on it.

I used to have a picture of the ocean on my iPhone screensaver. I changed it to five smooth stones. I got some giants I need to take down. It’s a reminder to me that I am a spiritual warrior.

I’ll be back in 2 days to share with you exactly how I’ve learned to fight. I’ve been a little long winded today, but I hope this helps.

Anyway, gotta go!

The reinvention continues…

Peace and power,

Alvin
